DiscoverEU travel vouchers

How can I activate my DiscoverEU travel voucher?

Successful applicants will receive an email notification and will be given access to a mobile application, the DiscoverEU travel app. The European Youth Card will also be activated in the application and once activated will be valid for one year.

As a general rule, successful applicants will be able to choose between the following two travel options:

  • Flexible travel
  • Fixed trip
What is the flexible travel voucher?

It allows you to travel by train for seven days within a maximum total period of one month, and you can take as many trains as you need each day. It includes trains from all EU Member States and third countries associated to the Erasmus+ programme.

Travel dates are flexible. The start date must be selected when activating the voucher in the mobile application, bearing in mind that, from that date, the voucher will be valid for one month.

The contractor is the external party in charge of booking, purchasing and delivering the travel vouchers of those selected. Once the voucher is booked, they will contact the successful applicants by email and create a user account so they can access their flexible voucher on the DiscoverEU travel mobile app and start creating their itinerary. Travel segments can be added from the time the voucher is activated on the mobile device up to and including the day of travel, provided that the date falls within the overall validity of the voucher (i.e. one month).

For trains where seat reservations are required or recommended, the cost of a seat reservation is not included in the flexible travel voucher.

What is the fixed travel option?

It allows you to visit a total of two countries for a maximum period of one month (not including your country of departure or countries crossed). Successful applicants shall communicate to the contractor the desired travel itinerary with fixed days and times and predefined destinations. Travel dates cannot be changed once the voucher has been issued.

After receiving the itinerary, the contractor shall confirm within five working days whether the proposed trip is feasible. If the proposed itinerary is not considered suitable, the flexible travel option may be chosen.

Unlike the flexible travel voucher, the fixed travel voucher covers all booking costs, subject to a budget limit.
